Hi,

I was going to buy this postcode based shipping extension but the instructions are vague.
http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route ... on_id=6687
I want to add a shipping zone database table to the database with these fields: product ids, postcodes and shipping from a large csv file.
Is there a way to do this without the extension as the extension doesn't appear to do it.

Postcode-Based Shipping is for postcode-based flat rates for the entire cart. If you want to have ones for individual products, you could use Category & Product-Based Shipping, which can do that.

You can back up its settings into a a .txt file, which you can then edit in a spreadsheet editor. It has a particular format that you'll need to follow, which you can read more about how to edit here:

For your purpose, you would be adding rules for the postcode range(s), and rule for the associated product. If you'd like to discuss the format further, or have any questions, feel free to contact me at www.getclearthinking.com/contact

Hi Jonathan,
The shipping price for each product varies according to the postcode. Which extension do I need for this?
Thanks.

If they are flat or per item rates, you can use a Postcode type charge, and enter the ranges like this:

1000-1199 = 5.00
1200-1299 = 7.00
etc.

You then add a "Product" rule to the charge, to restrict it to just that product. If you have more complex charge structures (like a weight-based scheme) then you need to set up the brackets that way, and then use a "Postcode" rule to restrict the charge to those postcodes.

I don't check the forum as often as my e-mail, so again, please use my contact form if you'd like to discuss it further.

Hi Jonathan,

I tried what you said in the postcode based shipping demo.
I added a charge by clicking the +Add Charge button:

1. In the first field added admin reference (a name for it): Postcode Charge
2. In the second field added the title displayed to customer: [postcode] (this will display the calculated postcode).
3. In the charge field added the postcode ranges and prices, e.g.
1000-1199 = 5.00
1200-1299 = 7.00
etc.
4. Then clicked +Add Rule and tried to add a "Product" rule to the charge, to restrict it to just that product.

But you have to choose the rule type from a dropdown list, which doesn't have a product rule type in it.

The extension I referenced that has Product rules is Category & Product-Based Shipping. Use the demo link on that page, to get to the right admin panel area.
