Affiliate Commision done via category

Hi Guys

I want to know is it possible to have different affiliation percentage/rate per category?

Like for example

Following Categories

Gaming Software - 1%
Hardware - 4%
Books - 3%
Electronics - 2%

Is it possible? to differentiate it? and have different rate for a category. The coding basically I think my idea would be to create the rate/percentage on the product

And when it working out the affiliation amount it checks on the product for the percentage and uses that? from looking at the code it seems workable

Is that possible to do? Just not sure where to start
