Thanks to help from many of the forum regulars, I finally got my first OpenCart design completed and launched for my client (a high end custom jewelry maker in Boston) last week.

Features:
  • A homepage slider that highlights items in the featured module.
A "new" image applied to all items added within the last 30 days.
A "sale" image on any item that's on 'special'.
Replaced the default "lightbox" effect with a custom one. (The default lightbox effect is a bit tired, in my opinion.)
    Custom design (obviously.)
    Custom "Add to Cart" buttons.
Quantity up/down buttons to increase quantity in cart (in lieu of allowing customer to enter a random number.)
Item count and total price (sans tax and shipping) in header, along with empty cart image for no items and full cart image for 1+ item.
Newsletter module added for signup without registration
    CSS3 buttons throughout
Additional image galleries (see http://www.therubydoor.com/index.php?ro ... uct_id=170 for an item with 1+ image) in lieu of tabbed standard product details interface.
Overall, I'm pleased. Now I just have to teach my client how to use it, since she's been using osCommerce since 2003 when I did her last site. Thanks again to everyone that helped me over the learning curve. I'm glad to say I'll be using OpenCart from now on for all my e-commerce projects. Simple to use, easy to template, and excellent to hand over to the client.

Any feedback about my first OpenCart site would be appreciated.

Nice design, very clean and easy to use. Two comments:

1. I always prefer hover: attributes for buttons and links so that I know what I'm about to click.

2. The newsletter box's input fields were too long, pushing the text into a funky configuration. This is in Chrome on a Mac. See the image below for a reference.

Thanks for the feedback. I fixed the Newsletter alignment in Chrome.

As for the hover effects - the client didn't want them, and since I'm using cufon replacement for the font itself, it'd be a bit more difficult to do so.

Thanks for the comments. I'm really pleased with how the site came out.

Love it.

I have same issue with navigation . We all have got used to being directed via hand to know you can click on the link.

Im a fan of a clean uncluttered site. Your eyes are drawn to the product not the site. Good work.

Thanks for the comments. I realized now that I didn't put a link to the homepage in the original post! http://www.therubydoor.com

I tried playing around with cufon :hover effects this morning, but it seems that is a bit buggy and doesn't respect the CSS for those hover colors. So all the hovers were blue, which didn't match the site, and looked awful. And since the client likes it without, and with the cufon.replace font, I don't want to go back and change it now.

Thanks again!

Hello, I'm looking for a module like yours with the "no registration newsletter", did you buy it or make it by yourself?

Thank you in advance!!

It was a premium module that I purchased from here: http://theqdomain.com/ocstore/newsletter

Great plugin, and very easy to use.
