Does OpenCart support multi-shop?

My test/development/demo area is at http://www.your-school.co.uk which is a background development I spend time on when I feel like it.

The top level is Wordpress, the shop level is Opencart. I can add a new division (eg. Workwear) very quickly because Wordpress is now multi-site; I can add a new shop (eg. Derbyshire) very quickly because Opencart is multi-store. The whole thing is currently in one database with one admin for the top levels and one admin for the shops.

The main stumbling block at the moment is that only one payment module can be used which renders the whole thing useless, but I will address that when the time comes.

I have an Admin level which is basically Top Admin with many items disabled in the header but I will need a 'Francisee Admin' level where they can only see items enabled for their store.

Multishop is a good feature. OpenCart do not have that feature. But I hope it will be provided by the OpenCart very soon. Some other website provided this feature. I think they became popular because of this. I have also used this functionality. It was awesome.

Just installed and setup our first installation, perfectly smooth and looks like a great system!
The primary reason we wanted to use OpenCart is for the Multi-Store capabilities. I cannot seem to find much in the documentation on setting this up and am wondering if someone here can point me to the right direction.

I am also having a little trouble understanding how to install a new theme, if you could point me in the right direction too that would be great.

Search for multi-store. There are lost of threads on how to configure multi-store. Pay particular attention to the need for a / at the end of the URL
In a nutshell, just point the other store domains names to the same folder as the install folder and configure the store in admin.
Also, makes sure you're not reading info on multi-store "on localhost" (unless you want to install on Xammp for a devel environment)

If the theme has been done correctly, you just drop the folder into catalog/view/theme
Then go to admin > system > settings > store and there you will see a drop down box from which you can choose the new theme. Open Cart is smart enough to know that a new theme is now in the theme folder. So, all you have to do is select it in admin and save.

Thanks, I am able to define the other shops and am pointing them to the same install folder, but how am I able to access the other shops if they are all pointed to the same folder? I think there is something fundamental that I am misunderstanding.

Multi-store is a single administration for multiple shops.

The administration allows Categories, Manufacturers, Products, Downloads, Information Pages etc., to be selected by ticking which stores they should appear in so any store can have any combination of global, shared or unique content.

It also allows each store to have its own logo, frontpage text, template etc., so that it can be completely different in design and layout.

The only two real weaknesses are:
a) It does not allow for different payment process or account details per store.
b) Store level administrators can see ALL stores content

I will (hopefully) have to address this soon myself either through my own efforts if I feel I can do it, or through the commercial section. If I decide I can do it myself (and it doesn't seem very complicated), I will add it to the project extensions.

I think you are misunderstanding what people are saying when they say to point them to the same place. If your shop is at http://domainname.com/shop/ then your second store might be http://subdmain1.domainname.com/ however when you setup that subdomain you don't have it goto a /subdomain/ folder like it normaly would by default you have it goto /shop/ folder so that it works off the same files.

Please kindly assist me on how to setup multi-stores on line. I just want to know how I can point the sub domains to the store urls created from the admin back end.

for some reason - the whole thing with multi-store doesn't work in open cart 1.4.9.3v.
i'v configured exactly as described and it opens the same store - the default.

can someone please check that?


after some trying. it did worked but only if i set the other store using subdirectory (not subdomain), and point it to the same location as the other store.

main store using subdomain - http://store.domain.com/
and points to root\store

other store use main domain - http://domain.com/store/
and points to root


but when them both uses subdomain (or domains) it just doesn't work. could it be hosting issue?

Do you have any rewrites in htaccess?

sorry, but i didn't get the question cause i dont use htaccess, i set up the subdomains or domain to point any folder using the hosting company control panel - lets say its the Cpanel (which it isn't) and it works the same.

yes it does!

sure it does, by some pepole in this forum that try it and succeed.
but i guess it depends where you host your store and how the host company manage the subdomians.
sorry, but for me it didn't work.

i'm gonna try some other things:
1. define my namesrvers to point to my domain supplier and manage the whole subdomains from there to point to the same directory.
2. try it with different domains - just to see if i get different front panel.
3. some other stuff that i will think of later.

Well, technically it does, but it really depends on your needs whether or not it's usable.

For instance, you can't have different shipping calcs, discounts, fees, etc. for each store — or even separate contact email addresses per store, for that matter. Until each store can stand on it's own, I wouldn't really call it 'multi-shop' capable.

Here's hoping that 1.5.x solves this problem, as we cannot switch from our present cart until it does.
