OpenCart Community

I started my first business on Opencart 1.5 ... and Loved it! Very easy to work with and understand. The Backend was brilliantly designed and there was always a plugin or extension to answer my call. But when I needed Integrations with third party major players there was no support for Opencart. This was 2 years ago I moved my site to woocommerce which I really dont like. Now its 2017 and I still see the same thing happening. There is always integration for Shopify,Woo,Magento,ZENCART! I always see freaking zencart lol Whats up with Opencart? Is integrating hard? Why isnt opencart competing on the same level

Can you please clarify what integration exactly do you need. Like which 3th party service are you willing to use and there is no plugin for that.
The more details you share the better we can understand and respond to the demand.

It's true, OpenCart used to be a standard integration for many 3rd parties but now they don't bother with it.

Shopify, BigCommerce & Magento have taken over the world.

Shopify and BigCommerce are pay platforms, aren't they?
Magento is next to impossible to operate swiftly in shared hosting environments. Quite possibly one of the most bloated open source projects out there, too.

None of these are much competition for Opencart, in my opinion.

I was recently looking into a third party inventory managment system.. Such as ecomdash etc. but noone support opencart. Some of the Smaller Players do but im looking for the popular platforms.

Yes they are paid platforms, but if you can't afford/not willing to spend $29/month you have to question why you are setting up an eCommerce store in the first place. Don't get me wrong I love OC & have used it for my business for 5 years (and still do) but the shape eCommerce platform industry has changed a lot in the last couple of years.

As for Magento, again why even bother with shared hosting why you can operate a decent VPS for next to nothing? They also offer a cloud solution now too.

If you *need* a VPS to power the codebase (not just because you have a lot of traffic or enormous catalog), there is a massive problem.

I agree, that's why I think amateurs should use Shopify or Bigcommerce.

All done for you, nothing server side to worry about, all the extensions and integrations you could possibly dream of with no compatibility issues.

I have to partially agree. I find OpenCart the max. Couldn't have done with any other shopping software what I did with OpenCart.

Im now despirately looking for an integrationg with Bpost shipping manager (national postal service in my country). As mentioned above plug ins available for Prestashop, Woocommerce, Magento, .... but not for OpenCart.

I know several people asked for it but no integration yet.

For integrations you have a few options. You can see if there is a module in the marketplace already available, plenty of free available if you dont want to spend on them but also plenty of commercial options too.

If you cannot find what you are looking for, then there are three (well four) avenues you could follow

Develop your own module: its not as hard as it seems but there is a learning curve especially if you are not a programmer.

Commission a developer: most of the developers in the market place would be happy to do custom work for you for an agreed price. All they need from you is documentation for the system you want to integrate and of course payment. You never know, if its something they believe they can market they might give you a reduced price for the idea.

Put in a feature request: Open cart has a features request platform, I forget the url offhand but you can request it and then work on getting support for the request so that its more likely to be included in a future update.

Don't integrate: of course you want the functionality of the external system so this really is a non-option.
