OpenCart anti-fraud system has flagged one of your orders with possibly fraudulent. Can you please take a photo of a utility bill or photo ID, or other proof of address and email it to support@opencart.zendesk.com.
What's this all about? I can't figure out why I'd need to do this. I'm currently working from abroad so I don't have any utility bills and I'm not really sure I want to go in search of a scanner so I can send a copy of my passport to opencart.

Is there any other way I can resolve this?

Sounds a bit over the top.

You have to go to Contact page and let them know: http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route=support/contact

I find this feature really annoying and should be taken off completely. Even Amazon, Newegg and Ebay never ask for your "ID" to verify your account.

I take my 4th amendment (privacy) very seriously and I don't like being asked for my "Utility bill" or "Photo ID" unless for business reasons, such as negotiating with distributors, manufacturers or Paypal (for being my payment gateway). My Opencart membership (not this forum membership) has been around for years, and now they want my "photo ID"? Opencart has become a police-state to its members. Now with NSA around, the last thing I want to leave my online footprint is my "Photo ID". Plus, I bought all my extensions with verified Paypal account, isn't that legit enough?

This is ridiculous. Honest customers are treated like criminals yet pirates can get by without restrictions like this. The idea of buyer needing to get "permission" to use extensions they buy with their hard-earned money is insane. Plus, we have to wait for hours or days to be approved? Our productivity is halted because of this.

If this keeps going on, you're just going to convince people to take the piracy route instead of buying legitimate extensions. More convenient, immediate access and free.

Yeah, this is a serious issue for all the reasons you've mentioned.

Luckily in my case my order was mysteriously approved without comment a few hours after I posted this thread. Still, I didn't appreciate the disruption to my workflow.

Is this happening for everyone? I was looking at setting up another oc site and maybe getting a couple of ext but if I have to prove I'd before I can get access to them I might just leave it. Like above I already have 2 oc sites and mods bought with verified paypal acc.

Running OC 1.5.5.1 with vqmods.

I wont be giving any proof of id. I pay using a verified paypal account. Ive been a member here long enough to prove im genuine, and ive paid for plenty of extensions in the past.

Im not going to give my ID to anyone over the internet who I don't even know.

Actually, how about WE see some ID before buying extensions? didn't think so.

I just checked my account and this isn't happening (to download previous orders). I haven't tried to purchase anything new lately.

Seems like they have probably tightened fraud controls lately, likely due to an increase in fraud attempts. If you are consistently having trouble with orders getting flagged as fraudulent, I would contact the OpenCart team to let them know (since approval should generally only be required once). If that doesn't work, you can always try purchasing directly from the developer, since many developers have their own websites for their extensions.

I agree. I don't want to go passing any photo id around. I paid using a verified paypal account. I just want to work on my site...right now.

This just happened to me too. This is OUTRAGEOUS. I already purchased two extensions in the past. I use a verified Paypal account. NO WAY I'm sending my ID over the internet to somebody I don't know for no apparent reason whatsoever.

I would say the fraud is on OpenCart's side at the moment. I PAID for a PRODUCT and I'm refrained from USING my rightfully PURCHASED product.

Mildly put I'm OUTRAGED.

12 hours in...still not assigned. It's $15. I've been through this before, paid using a verified paypal account and I've bought extensions in the past. This is driving me nuts.

You'll need to contact the OpenCart team directly about this. I believe there is a setting to mark your account as safe, but I don't know what criteria they use to determine that (it could be X number of purchases, or it could be an account that is X months old + a verified purchase, for example). You could explain the situation and how you've purchased extensions before, and request that they do that for you.

I mentioned this in a related topic, but if you continue to have trouble purchasing on opencart.com, you could also try purchasing directly from the developer. Most developers have their own web stores that they sell their extensions through, and don't have quite as rigorous fraud systems as OpenCart does. That being said, it's always good to support OpenCart and its development by purchasing through the opencart.com store -- if it's not too much of a hassle for you. :)

Has any other devs seen reduced sales since they incorporated this verification stuff?

My sales for 2014 were lower than 2013, but it's hard to know if that was due to the ID verification steps they implemented, or if people were just buying fewer extensions since a new version wasn't out for months.
