No wonder it won't work. Extensions for OpenCart 4 are written up differently. See this documentation on how to do it.
Also be aware that none of the OpenCart 4.x releases are yet suitable for live sites, OpenCart 4 should only be used by developers at the moment. Jump to post

OpenCart 3.0.3.8 doesn't support any of the PHP 8.x releases. Use the 3.0.x.x_Maintenance branch which supports PHP 8.2.

Since you are using the Journal3 framework (which isn't of best quality to start with), instead of OpenCart, you may have to contact the Journal3 support for this. Journal3 uses its own checkout.

Maybe use a CRON-task to call up your index.php?route=extension/module/product_expiry every hour, or daily? No need for an elaborate twig-template for the catalog frontend for this module if only called by the CROM-task. Just a quick thought.
