Re: Why use OpenCart?

I came over to Open Cart from Zen Cart for one specific feature - the guest checkout. I think that it something that every site should have. The whole problem (IMHO) is that shopping carts have historically evolved from the wants of web developers, rather than the needs of shop owners. Wherever did ...

Dynamically resizing header image - is it possible?

I am using the regular default template in version 1.4.8b. In the style sheet I have changed the container value to 98% rather than the px setting, which gives me a dynamic width to suit all screen resolutions that the shop user may have. Obviously the header image remains the same size. Does anyone...

Re: Do many customers use guest checkout?

Here is perhaps a better example of the same checkout in action Q. http://www.ladybead.com/ I know that lots of folks like the shipping estimator in Zen Cart, as it gives shop customers the chance to see what the shipping is BEFORE filling out any data. I hate the time spent filling out forms to be ...

Re: Do many customers use guest checkout?

This shop features a nice example of a good checkout system. Just add a product to the basket, click the checkout and you'll see what I mean in the previous post about giving the shipping costs BEFORE filling in any data. http://www.happichix.com/ Something like this in Opencart at some leter stage ...

Re: [THEME] new default2

Thanks for all your help on this Qahar. I am using a 1440x900 resolution screen, so it may be that the effect is more pronounced on my monitor. ??? I am using the default2 theme with no modifications other than removing the three boxes from along the bottom. I'll try it on my Xampp environment with ...

Re: [THEME] new default2

may be you can put the margin left and right at the last of #slider, before }. Sadly I still cannot get the slider image to centralise. It still stays on the left and just doesn't look right :( It's a shame as it is the only element I can't get to work with fluid width, but sadly I have only a very...

Re: What does (or doesn't) make a good shop? - Opinions want

I just realized that I took the topic of the thread as an opportunity to list my gripes, though the topic is supposed to be about what makes a good shop. Eliminating the bad things from a shop, leaves a good shop (hopefully) ;D Whilst it is true that sites have evolved with a similar layout structu...

Re: [THEME] new default2

Hi. Have changed the code in the stylesheet, but it has made no difference. The slider image is still on the left rather than centralised. :-\

Re: [THEME] new default2

Thanks again for your help Qahar and the code sample. Not quite sure where this is supposed to go in the stylesheet. Is it to replace code that is already there, or extra code to go with what's already there.

This is my final hurdle...... :D

Re: [THEME] new default2

OK, I managed to get rid of the bestsellers, featured and special boxes from the bottom of the page by looking at an earler post in this thread. That still leaves the nivo slider issue, I just want to image to appear in the centre of the nivo box, rather than on the left, as with fluid width on the ...

Re: Do many customers use guest checkout?

Look at this whole issue from a shopper's perspective. I go on an Opencart powered site. I see a couple of products that I like and add them to the cart. I checkout by filling in all the required data, then get taken to the shipping and payment page. It is ONLY at that stage that i find out if the s...

Re: [THEME] new default2

Thanks Qahar. That has really helped me out and I now have my fluid width working perfectly. ;D There is just one single solitary element that I need to realign now. In the Nivo Slider I need the image to be centralised, rather than offset to the left as it is now. For some reason I also have the fe...

Re: [THEME] new default2

Can someone help me with an ammendment to the stylesheet. In the regular default theme I just change the container from px to % which gives me a fluid width, resolution independent cart. I have tried to do this with this default2 theme, which I like and although I can get the headers and the page to...

Re: Do many customers use guest checkout?

The streamlined checkout sounds like an excellent idea. 8) For those making impulse purchases, the sooner a shop owner can get them through the checkout process and have the money off them the better. ;D One of the best cart checkouts I have seen, has the customer enter the shipping destination and/...

Re: Do many customers use guest checkout?

I am fully intending to utilise the guest checkout in Opencart Jay. :) Only reason I am asking the question, is to see what sort of ratio of customers actually go for the guest checkout, rather than register an account. Just being curious ;D Surprisingly when I asked the development team at Zen Cart...

Do many customers use guest checkout?

I have a quick question for folks that currently use Opencart on live trading sites. Do many customers use the guest checkout, or do they prefer to register an account? Reason I ask, is I was reading an article on cart abandonment that cited having to register on a site as one of the reasons. Just w...

Phew, I'm just glad that OC does support multiple shops, otherwise my plans would have gone seriously adrift. :-\

PayPal and inventory question.

I've not deployed Open Cart on a live site yet, only experimented with it on a xampp server and with Paypal Sandbox. Here is my question. I'll be using regular Paypal and selling 'one off' items on more than one site. Am I right in assuming that the inventory/stock control will only delete products ...

Re: What does (or doesn't) make a good shop? - Opinions want

It can be annoying when an e-commerce site wants you to 'register' before allowing you to check out/pay. That was the primary reason why I ditched Zen Cart. The folks over there live in a bygone age where identity theft doesn't exist. ??? Whilst Open Cart still generally requires address informatio...

Re: What does (or doesn't) make a good shop? - Opinions want

These are all good ideas coming through and give an insight as to different people's perspectives on web sites. The original idea that came into my head, was that many site developers often put so many 'bells and whistles' into an ecommerce site, that it loses its original purpose, which is to promo...
