Re: Progress Towards 1.5.0

Version 1.50 will have lots of new features that many of us want and will be the 'quantum leap' version that will finally make it serious competition for the likes of Zen Cart. Having said that though, folks have to remember that it is inevitable that it will come complete with bugs that have been m...

Re: Progress Towards 1.5.0

Daniel can put whatever he likes into the new version and use whatever technology is available, as long as it doesn't create an unstable product that 'falls over'. Just hope someone draws a line at some stage, so that you don't end up with a product as complex as Zen, or as resource hungry as Magent...

Re: Progress Towards 1.5.0

Without turning this thread into a big debate on SEO, I am a great believer in a site being product lead . You can SEO a product to death and there are hundreds of unscrupulous individuals out there that will part you from your cash in that quest. You can incorporate flash slideshows onto your web a...

Re: Progress Towards 1.5.0

This may affect your page ranking as Google does discriminate against what it considers to be 'duplicate content'. Unfortunately most sites can't help having a lot of duplicate content. For example shops selling tee shirts are going to be using the word 'shirt' everywhere, shops selling cd's and dv...

Re: Progress Towards 1.5.0

When Microsoft rushed Vista out of the door it caused immense problems. They took a bit more time with Windows 7 and released a relatively stable product that was much improved. I hope that Daniel takes his time with getting 1.5 right before he releases it onto the market (minor bugs excepted). At t...

Re: Progress Towards 1.5.0

LOL, as long as you build it for Custom_UK's edition of OC only.... Seriously though, a built in optional shipping estimator would be nice, although it might upset Johnathan a little bit. :-\ Only a developer would have come up with the idea where customers have to enter all of their detail...

Re: Progress Towards 1.5.0

IE9 will be out soon enough, and I think people can use OC 1.4.9.1 until then if they really want to retain IE6 support. The problem with the current OC 1.49 is that customers have to go through the farce of entering all their details just to see the shipping charges. That is the reason I won't dep...

Re: Progress Towards 1.5.0

Sadly I have to look at things from a business perspective. Just presenting a malformed site to customers using IE6 is not the sort of image most businesses would wish to portray. Telling users they have to change browsers just to view your site is also a non starter. For those customers using IE6 o...

Re: Progress Towards 1.5.0

I'm not saying that the theme shouldn't support ie6 I just want the shop owners that do not understand that there are real cost in development time and effort associated with supporting ie6. OK put it in a different context say in a bricks and mortar store. You approach the shop owner and tell them...

Re: Progress Towards 1.5.0

Whilst I can only speak about my own sites in definitive terms, I have a lot of activity from IE6 users around lunchtime in the week, including actual purchases. It would be a fair assumtion to say those are probably folks at work using the standard IE6 setup and with no possibility of them installi...

Re: Progress Towards 1.5.0

Speaking as a shop owner rather than a web developer, IE6 still represents between 10-15% of all web users, so I guess the question is, would shop owners like to lose potentially 1 in 10 customers by presenting a malformed site to them? Times are tough enough without alienating customers. The realit...

Re: Progress Towards 1.5.0

I was going to go live with version 1.49, but I'm going to wait until 1.50 hits the streets and becomes a stable platform. Whilst template changes might be good if you know exactly what you are doing, for the rest of us mere mortals it is very 'hit or miss' trying to adapt older templates. I hope 1....

Practical way to incorporate a blog?

What is the most practical way to incorporate a blog into an OpenCart powered site? Without deviating off topic, have folks actually found blogs on their sites to be a worthwhile investment? I know it depends on content, but have blogs realistically boosted your site sales, or drawn measurably more ...

Re: [THEME] new default2

Hi Qahar. If I wanted to use your theme without the nivo slider, is it possible for that bit to be 'switched off' somewhere, or is there an element of code I could comment out, or remove to achieve that? Would be looking to remove the 'box' it occupies too. Your non tabbed layout if better than the ...

Re: Want non-Tab template compitable with IE6

channelcommerce did a good basic no-tab template - slow loading page though: http://www.channelcommerce.co.uk/opencart_themes.php it says for 1.4.7: but should translate pretty well to 1.4.8 and later. I think only the checkout .tpl files changed in 1.4.8: not got my head around 1.4.9 .tpl files ye...

Re: Want non-Tab template compitable with IE6

If people don't upgrade their browsers from a 8 year old version, then their idiots! There are a lot of misleading figures given about the numbers of folks using IE6. Reality is it shopped with XP and not many people moved up to Vista after all the problems it has. The figures suggest that as many ...

Re: OpenCart v1.4.9 RC3 Available for Public Testing!

Thanks for clarifying that 1.49 will be the final release for a while (bugs excepted). I'm not going to fish for a release date for 1.50, as Zen Cart said two years ago they would soon be releasing the new 2.0 series..... Another developers spring deadline has long since passed by also..... ;D I'm j...

Re: Why use OpenCart?

If followed correctly, any custom themes made for 1.4.0 should work all the way through 1.4.9 I think much of the confusion as regards compatability, comes when folks look on the sites of commercial theme vendors and they read things like 'for version 1.47 only'. Contrary to whatever folks may thin...
