Re: What does (or doesn't) make a good shop? - Opinions want

Things in general, rather than anything specific to OC.

Looking at web sites from a shopper's perspective. :)

What does (or doesn't) make a good shop? - Opinions wanted.

Opencart like all other ecommerce offerings is essentially there to create trading shops. Folks put their goods for display on the 'net and hopefully the customers come along and part with their hard earned cash. Well that's the theory.!! 8) Apart from good navigation, a clear description of what is...

Re: Progress Towards 1.5.0

It's not only this site forum that is quiet at the moment Daniel. I think that folks are just chilling out in the garden, enjoying the light nights and digging out those 'outdoor' toys out of endless sheds and garages. Sure they'll all come flooding back when the dark nights creep back in again. 8)

Re: OpenCart v1.4.8

I too tried updating version 1.4 to version 1.48 but encountered errors. Upgrading the database caused most problems. I don't know whether that's due to the newer database having more tables (59 as opposed to the original 51). To resolve the issues I eventually just put a fresh install of 1.48 then ...

Re: Upgrade 1.4.0 to 1.4.7 error theme

Unfortunately the ctrl +F5 forced cache clearance doesn't resolve the issue, as the misaligned search boxes like the original poster shows in his screenshot persists. I have carried the original stylesheet over from the original 1.4 as it slightly modified to show categories with boxes and also carr...

Re: Upgrade 1.4.0 to 1.4.7 error theme

I too have the same display error as the previous post with the search boxes out of alignment. I'm using the standard template, but with the categories as boxes in the stylesheet.

Any ideas why 1.4.7 might have screwed up the alignment and any ideas where to look to resolve it. ???

Re: Best Hosting Site??

I use a small hosting company called Magmahost. Their customer service and support has been brilliant for a low cost hosting provider. :)

UPDATE: June 2010. Since Magmahost got took over by Yomura, their service has deteriorated. Have now gone with catalyst2 who are brilliant.

Re: ZenCart or OpenCart

I am a long time user of Zen Cart and that is not totally free from hacker attacks, with new security vulnerabilities found on a regular basis. After years of Zen I am finally making the move over to OpenCart now. The code is cleaner, the admin area is more practical and the built in guest checkout ...

Re: Contact Us- Delete Store's Telephone

You must believe whatever you wish to believe, but I run my businesses on fact, not assumption. All of our sites and operations are based on based on information received from legal representatives and the local chamber of commerce advisory service. Some of us really have better things to do with ou...

Re: Contact Us- Delete Store's Telephone

In the UK it is a legal requirement to show a contact phone number. Actually that is incorrect. The electronic commerce directive states that customers must have a means of contacting you and there must be a reference to the geographical location of the business, within the web site. A web contact ...

Re: Disabling fields

OK. I finally got it sorted. ;D To anyone else that wants to remove the forced telephone field in the checkout process, here is the EASY way to achieve it. Go to catalog/view/template/account/create. Look for the telephone field that has >*< on it. Delete the asterisk ONLY. Then go to catalog/view/t...

Re: Contact Us- Delete Store's Telephone

My own preference is via email. That way everything is down in 'writing' then, so there is no opportunity for confusion, or misunderstandings afterwards. I do get the odd email asking me to phone a potential customer (usually on a mobile number) as they want to enquire about a particular product. I ...

Re: Disabling fields

Hi, I'm new to Opencart, can anyone expand on exactly which files and code elements I need to alter the telephone field to lose it's 'required' status. Many of my customers are international, so it is of limited use to many of us.

Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.... Thanks

Re: Contact Us- Delete Store's Telephone

A lot of us purposefully remove the contact phone numbers from our sites for a whole variety of legitimate reasons. The primary one being so we don't get plagued by nuisance sale calls that tie up our time. Surprisingly some of us do have better things to do, than keep telling inconsiderate sales mu...
