I have always found that Google tends to look for a pyramid structure for pages when indexing websites -> so the pages nearer the root are the 'category' or 'high level subject' used for google to understand what that area of the site is all about.... and pages further away are...

There are probably a few options. A simple one would be to get one of the AJAX extensions that automatically changes the product price as people select options (with costs). Then use some simple Javascript to automatically trigger one of those selections as your page is loading -> so the ajax kicks ...
