For installation , there are two majoy files needed to be changed. OpenCart Team already did the script half way and includes it in the official download under directory \upload\system\library\db . I just installed OpenCart 2.1.0.1 on PostgreSQL 9.4 with the modified installation scripts. The original download just won't be able to go through the entire installation steps.
Here is the set up of mine:
CentOS 6.6
updated PHP from 5.3 to 5.5.6
Apache 2.2.15
PostgreSQL 9.4
