Re: OpenCart: How Secure Is It?

iPaq2 ... I'm referring to the way the constructive criticism was handled, the guy was called an 'idiot' several times. Is *that* how things are done in the Open Cart community? Constructive feedback treated with contempt? cstuder posted honest constructive criticism and ideas. The response he got w...

Re: OpenCart: How Secure Is It?

I'm afraid the damage has been done & it's going to be really difficult to turn this one around: http://www.reddit.com/r/programming/comments/c60g1/how_not_to_respond_to_constructive_criticism/ http://img580.imageshack.us/img580/1921/opencartoop.jpg Turned me right of ever using Opencart or suggesti...

Re: OpenCart 1.4.2

If nobody is supposed to use 1.4.1 or 1.4.2, then why do we have: OpenCart 1.4.2 OpenCart 1.4.1 OpenCart 1.4.1 for testing only! as main news items on the home page? and also: http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route=information/download It also seems that a lot of people 'speak' for Daniel. Talk abo...

Re: OpenCart business model?

the problem is people beliving they have some sort of ownership over the code they write and nobody else can write the same code or features. ideas are free and mostly made up from other peoples ideas taken from the public domain. Amen to that. I've picked up everything I know to date from other pe...

Re: OpenCart business model?

What is not normal in your stories, is to have on one side business or online shops who earn immediately money with the sale of services or products with OpenCart they get free, and on other side the author and developers who program for peanuts. If that's the beauty of open source, I think it's a ...

Re: OpenCart business model?

The minute you start to go part-way free and open by using the GPL or similar, all sorts of issues and legal wranglings can arise such as this, which actually end up hampering progress, and anyone who's actually got a vested interest in ripping off the code you've released for their own gains are p...

Re: OpenCart v1.4.0

i2Paq - probably a good idea to remove all the argumentative stuff from this thread?
Another good idea for topics like this, is to put them in Announcements area as a 'non-reply' post, then link to a General Discussion area?

Re: OpenCart business model?

Regarding not getting enough cash to live off updates, I guess that depends who is paying? Put it this way, we've got a client who we're trying to find a solution for and they've got a pretty good budget for the project. Programmers rates - that depends on skill level, but generally, your looking at...

Re: Logo Contest

Yeah, like 47.. but the McDonalds colours need to go. The colours were a bit of a quick bosh together to get a feel for it. I was aiming for the Google style colours - but think I went a bit too tomato sauce and mustard :D I'll have another go at it later today if I get time - just doing it for fun...

Re: Logo Contest

I had a spare 10 mins where I felt the need to do something other than mysql and php, and submitted one.

First draft, has potential.

Re: OpenCart v1.4.0

You have on site capability to write a cart from the ground up yet you want to farm out modifications requested by your client to a 3rd party? just so they can be included in the main codebase so you don't have to maintain them? (and likely a feature only your client wants?) :-\ I can't see any rea...

Re: OpenCart v1.4.0

I suspect re-building our own will win the day. Just curious what carts you compared and what made you decide to announce what I've qouted above. As I have seen many, if not all, free and Open Source carts I'm certain that building one yourself is, and I'm using Xsecrets words "creating a cart is a...

Re: OpenCart v1.4.0

I think you'll find there's a lot of 'lurkers' on these forums, like myself, comparing features and making decisions - many of those based on commercial motives. For my part, I've been testing and watching for a few weeks, weighing up the strengths of Opencart with a number of other carts out there....

Re: feature questions - order splitting / module position

Sounds exciting - basically, a bit of a 'Drupalish' approach in module positioning - header, columns, content, footer. Order splitting can be fairly simplistic. After speaking with a client of my companies about his order splitting needs (he's currently on our in-house ecommerce system), he indicate...

feature questions - order splitting / module position

Order splitting - ability for admin to split customer orders due to product availabilty issues, shipping issues etc. This is a request I'm constantly getting on our current in-house system by clients. I'm sure I've seen mention of this on the forum. Home page layout customisation - I'm thinking prod...
