Starting fresh with 3.0.3.8 and carefully moving features over using proper OCMOD is probably the safest bet. It’ll take time but will make future updates way easier.

I get how frustrating that can be! For downloading the XML feed, you can actually just save the page from your browser - usually, right-click and “Save As” to save the XML file locally.
