Looked through the twig documents again and see it is actually php so no need to answer that question. Never seen php used that way before though. I see that my default theme is still the only theme option available when making changes inside the admin backend so I will assume the example theme does...

Just If you care to get the latest and best 1.5.6.x Release, OC created a v.1.5.6.5_rc Version a good while ago, but did not add it to the 'official' Release List anymore. Because I couldn't figure this out I decided to remove the contact module from my site and create a different contact form and link to it instead. The warnings have now gone away.

So I had a hard drive failure and had to have a new one installed on my dedicated server and all went off without a hitch. I deleted all the files and folders and re-did a fresh install and everything is fine so far. I can only assume that installing the suphp module somehow affected my original install as that was the only thing different from the original install to the fresh one.
