i just had the same question, until I found out it was buildt in feature in 1.5.5.1 
On product edit, go to discount tab, there u add 1 discount price for each treshold quantity. They will list nicely on product page, and seem to work nicely on the totals

Sorry to not provide a full solution to your problem, but in my experience response code 500 usually means that the php code is invalid (wrong syntax etc). I have spent much more time than I'd like to think about, trying to solve similar problems just to find that I've missed a semicolon on a row. ...

I found the error :) Corrupt files... Have never had that problem before. Maybe filezilla is bugging me ? Who knows... Hmm, I find that unlikely. Both are on same hosting provider. I dont see why only that exact file (or whatever the problem is) should be unreachable, when everything else seems normal.
I am going blind here, been looking at files for hours now :/

[SOLVED] Problem with extension/module in 1.5.5.1
On my main site i get an error message when i go to admin - extensions - modules: Opera: You tried to access the address http://xxxxx/admin/index.php?route=extension/module&token=xxx, which is currently unavailable. Internet explorer throws an 500 internal error. On my test server it works fine....

[SOLVED] - Attributes page is blank - New installation
Hi all I have just now installed a new Opencart, latest version. Everything seem to work smooth exept the Attributes page in the admin pane. It just goes blank. Attribute groups work fine.
