How about an upgrade in an alternative way? Install a fresh 1.5.6 version and move database from the current one. It allows to avoid probable errors. If you need to move data from one version OpenCart to another, I'd recommend you to transfer db with migration service, called Cart2Cart.
I used it a couple of times and I should say it's great.
However, things like template you will have to move by yourself.

There is a migration service that can move from one shopping cart to another, but if you want to move your store from one server than just do as MarketInSG said and you don't really need any special tools.
