Ok so I found what was wrong.
I replaced the cart.tpl file found in catalog/view/theme/default/template/common with an original and its back to normal.
Is it possible to modify this .tpl ? Because everytime I add something to it, it stops working. And to fix it I have to upload original file again ?

pound and copyright sign not displaying
Hi Guys
When I write the £ sign in the templates for my open cart installation, all I get is a diamond shape with a question mark in the middle.
Does anyone know what is causing this ?
Everywhere else in the sytem where open cart is outputting the £ sign it displays fine.
Please help
