New to opencart. Would you direct me to documentation so I can double check the parameters that control responsiveness in Version 3?
The default template is responsive. What issue(s) are you having? Any screenshots or a link to your site for others to check?

Thank you!

so, if I installed the new website on a different domain it is no problem to move it to another domain?
You'll need to update both config.php files. If you're trying to merge any customers, products and/or orders into the new store, that gets a bit harder but it's completely doable.

Re: Using OpenCart for a vacation rentals website - will this be a good fit?

I am not sure that you can do this 'out of the box' but Opencart is all open source so it can be customized to fit these requirements. We've done similar things with other businesses and could likely help out if you want to contact us through our website.

Are you using Sitemaps that comes with the Opencart download or a third party extension? For so...

I will be purchasing the certificate soon. Once I do, I will post again to let you know how it works out. As it now stands, I can access the website only as a user. I do not have any back-end access, or access to any of the code for the website. Thank you very much for your insight and advice. Not ...

Re: Config and cache issues

In addition to clearing the OC cache mentioned above, make sure your browser cache is cleared as well. One other cache would be vqmod cache if you're using vqmod.

Steps 3 and 4 are not correct. We've worked on many v2.3.0.2 stores and never had to do this. Your whynopadlock error indicates you have a hard coded URL in the template that needs to be changed from http to https
