I think most people are put off by the idea of registering but they understand they need to provide an address for the item to be delivered and an email address for communication ... so once they've done all that, a little checkbox and a password field seem nice and easy.

The option to checkout as a guest or register at the beginning of the checkout, can I simply program a checkbox at the end of the checkout so the customer can click it and it will change guest to register and they will be registered upon completion?
