I've upgraded to 3.0.0.1 by going 1.5.6.4 to 1.5.6.5 to 2.2.0.0 to 2.3.0.2 to 3.0.0.1. The upgrade to 3.0.4.1 should be easy enough on a default installation.

I use Mautic self hosted. I usually strip out the OC newsletter system and embed a Mautic form on the site and in the user account area. It works well.
