correct. index.php and admin/index.php to be exact You and I2Paq2 were correct. I opened up both index.phps and they had "1.4.8." in them. Any reason why selecting and dragging all the 1.4.9.3 folders (Filezilla) to my public_html folder did not overwrite the pre-existing 1.4.8 index.phps...

Upgrading from 1.4.8 to 1.4.9.3
I followed the install instructions in the 1.4.9.3 upgrade.txt file, and I loaded the /admin page in Step 9 and I see that it still says "Version 1.4.8" at the bottom. Any idea where I went wrong?

That's right, use your PC as a server - install something like XAMPP or WAMP (Windows), or MAMP(for Macs). Then you can amend/test files without the hassle of uploading them to a web host.
