Hi,

Go to catalog\view\theme\default\stylesheet and edit stylesheet.css. You need to put the background colour/image into the "Body" :)

The best way to check if the details are being stored is look into your MySql database, the best way to do this is to use PhpMyAdmin. If you don't have PhpMyAdmin let me know what you have and I'll take you through it :)

you don't need to do any of that. 1. Goto Admin->System->Settings 2. Change the Store URL to the new url without the subfolder 3.
