Re: [MOD] Filtering product by manufacturers in categories

I'd just like to say a big thanks to cmerry and afwollis for this. I've just installed it on a 1.4.9.6 site and it works like a dream. Now I'm gonna work out how to do the opposite and also filter products via category on a manufacturer page. Hopefully it won't be too much different! :-\ Thanks agai...

Re: Product Description in product.tpl

The <p> and <span> elements are coming from what you entered in the description box in the admin section. It looks like you copy and pasted from Word (or some Mac equivalent, given the Helvetica), rather than a basic text editor like notepad. Go to the description box and click on source and you wil...

Re: Category Text and Changing Footer "Designed by"

Well, the category template is in view > your theme > template > product > category.tpl Have a look at that and you should find where that text is coming from. Search for <h1> and it should be just under the part that inserts the <h1> heading. For the footer, check your footer.tpl file at view > you...

Re: how to design OpenCart templates in mobile version?

Don't worry,it's coming along nicely - although may be a couple more weeks - Christmas nights out are getting in the way.

I'm pretty excited about it - it looks a lot better than that 1.4 version.

It'll definitely be done by the end of the year.

Ties, cufflinks and other stuff to sharpen you up

I'm almost finished a new shop for a gents' outfitters, so comments/criticisms are welcome and will help. It's very minimal, to focus on the products. http://sharpdressedman.co.uk/ It's built on v1.4.9.6 but I've added in a few v1.5 features such as the ability to change the number of products shown...

Re: Canonical URLs and page titles / internal links

Spiders crawl by following links, they don't guess URLs. You must have a link to http://www.xyz.com/lenovo on your site somewhere, that's why I said to check your navigation. And the robots.txt file doesn't block any keywords, it stops search engines indexing URLs like this: /index.php?route=product...

Re: How To Customise Appearance

You shouldn't copy the whole default template folder - you only need to copy the files you want to change. Copying the whole default folder is bad practice. Please see here for starter instructions on designing a new template: http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route=documentation/documentation&p...

Re: Canonical URLs and page titles / internal links

Okay, so it looks like you should only have the category indexed as: /pc/Lenovo I may be wrong but this looks like a product within that category: /Lenovo/lenovo-s10 To get rid of the sort listings you need a robot.txt file in the root of your site - I recommend the robots.txt file includes the foll...

Re: Canonical URLs and page titles / internal links

Could you explain how you are getting multiple routes to a given category? Products in several categories I can understand, a sub-category in several categories doesn't seem to make sense. Just create a new sub-category in the other categories to fix the problem. That's why there's no need for canon...

Re: Custom Titles for Category Pages

Apologies - here's is how to fix the undefined variable. In the header.tpl file find <title><?php echo $title; ?></title> and replace with <title><?php if (isset($meta_title)) { if ($meta_title != '') { echo $meta_title; } else { echo $title; } } else { echo $title; } ?></title>

Re: Better country selector

Cheers Q. I had some time off - my day job got a bit heavy for the last 7 or 8 months. Occassionally pop in and out. Now have some time on my hands I'm working on a "responsive design" template for v1.5 which will work on both desktops and all mobile devices. Some info here: http://forum.o...

Better country selector

Have searched and I don't think anyone has pointed this out yet. Smashing Magazine has a great new open source country selector available. Seems to work really well. Might be worth thinking about adding in to Opencart. http://uxdesign.smashingmagazine.com/2011/11/10/redesigning-the-country-selector/

Re: how to design OpenCart templates in mobile version?

I'm afraid I'm designing it for v1.5, but after it comes out if there's a big demand for a v1.4 version I might put in the time.

Re: how to design OpenCart templates in mobile version?

Yeah, you can do that. But what width do you choose? What mobile resolution are you designing for?

With responsive design you are basically creating a mobile.css file within your regular css file that works with all screen widths.

I'm slowly getting there (when I get the time).

Re: how to design OpenCart templates in mobile version?

Cheers guys. That's cool. Will hopefully finish it quicker then. Will load up a version I'm reasonably happy with rather than one I think is perfect. Would prefer to crowdsource some of the decisions anyway - there are a lot of choices and sacrifices to make when going from 980px to 320px.
