In Opencart v2.2.0.0 release, in admin - > catalog - > options - > select option, images can be added. Although, no images are being displayed from the store-front end product page. Either images does not belong in the select option or images tracking has not been included on the product page for this form option.
Considering the first possibility, images cannot be added within option values unless using jQuery / JS since the option values are verified after the SELECT form statement in catalog/view/theme/default/template/product/product.tpl file where:
