coupon code causing shipped orders to reappear as processing orders

We have had a promotion using a coupon code and the orders have been processed and marked as shipped.
Several weeks later, a small number of the orders which used that coupon code have reappeared as processing orders (ie somehow their status has changed from shipped to processing). The coupon history doesn't show all the orders that have used the coupon: in fact the history only shows 5 orders all of which have changed their status to processing. We are using 2.3.0.2 we believe the orders are all PayPal payments. Also, we are using JG's [VQMOD] Coupon Filters Pro 2.X would that affect this?
