OpenCart 2.2.0.0
Been working fine for mor than 18 months over regular HTTP
SSL Https configured and working fine visitors frontend, checking out and admin backend (no issues)
All the proper config files were modified to use https
Shared hosting at GoDaddy with CPU, Memory upgrades
Visitors can navigate site very good for minutes on, page to page, browsing categories and products no problem and then sometimes going back to Home takes for ever, more than 30 second to redisplay page and then slowlyness can be experienced more frequently
Tested with Chrome latest 66.0, Firefox, Explorer and Edge, same results.

Any ideas? Where to look at?

thanks in advance for any help

Thanks for your replies webcorvo,

I worked on some .htaccess file tweaks over the past few days, most of the site is now responding in very good times. But still remains slow when going back to Home page. The wait is unbelievable. I wonder what is special about going back to the OC Home page? Any other links just displays instantly almost. GTMetrix just scores everything above 90/100. Any clues, idea or leads...

Thanks

Joce

There are many factors that could create that.
If memory is set to high, server can run out of memeory, normally homepage is larger than any product page deu to used banners etc.
solution gradually decrease php memorie so site still works, and your problem disapears.
Godaay is know for database throteling, so after a lot of database queries the proces is set on hold and release after a short time.
solution optimize database.
perhaps you do have that many users, your hotting server limits.
even with upgraded ram etc if apache is not configured right it will run into limits, normally when upgrading memory apache threats and childprocesses should be adjusted to allow more traffic.
If your on a vps or cloud, there should be a insight in whats happening server load and al relevant details where you can find what creating the culprit and start solving from there
