Hello everybody,

I am thinking to host on my own hardware about 40 basic websites for small businesses, and in addition to that, about 20 simple eCommerce stores (each sells no more than 10 different items), using OpenCart.

Do you think Synology DS916+ (8GB) is a good hosting hardware for the above?
Can you suggest a better solution, within $800 budget?
I REALLY NEED YOUR ADVICE, in order to avoid "re-inventing the wheel". :-)

Also, what in your opinion are the best books on OpenCart 2.0 or 3.0 for a newbie?

All your input on the above questions will be greatly appreciated!

Well, building a new Business is always like re-inventing the Wheel too.
It's mostly a learning by doing as well, like anywhere else in real Lilfe.

But you don't need a Truck, to transport a couple of sixpacks of beer.
And if you ever grow, there is nothing easier, that moving up in Server
Power. At least, if you have a decent Hoster, offering such Services. I
have a whole Bunch of partly busy OC Test Sites running on a shared Server,
where more than 1K other Customers hang on a single IP-Number, as I found out.
And when looking at my Site Test Results, they always belong to the top top.

But then, you'll need a System Manager, relatively fluent in OC Coding,
when it comes to Customer Extension/Theme Requests or technical Matters.
Otherways, it's not gonna work, they want to use their chosen Themes, and
they want to get some other Extensions too, and if you cannot serve those needs,
they move on someplace else...

Just to give you some Ideas on this.
Good Luck! ;)

A synology is not up to that task.
max 8 gig mem is just to low for high volume traffic.
next to that setting up all those domainnames and websites will be a nightmare to get them all running perfect.
Synologys has its own file folder security and setting them right for each domain is horrible.
consider your internet speed as well upload wich s used for sending out the reaquested data will make all sites real slow.

find yourself a decent hosting and look for reseller hosting, that will give you all needed space and options to set up all your sites proffesional.
