Fix duplicate meta tags and title

Hi
My website uses Opencart CMS
My site is experiencing duplicate title tags and descriptions
I checked for duplicate content and found the cause of the duplicate is due to the Tags parameter
For example
Root URL: yoursite.com/abc
Duplicate URL: yoursite.com/abc?tag=@#enders#^&
My site has added a "canonical" tag, but Google still reported that the site is duplicated content. I then used the URL parameter tool to prevent Google Bot from crawling the URLs without Parameters tags
I've waited for Google Update and hopefully will not get duplicate errors. But worse when the number of copies larger.
I hope someone can help me make suggestions to fix this.
