Image Folder Speed

With a lot of images in image folder is it better to run them from the base folder, or use some kind of subcategory structure?

Image Managers have a very hard time, to load a lot of images in one Sub,
you should therefore better place Images into Subdirectories, to shorten the
process of displaying them in the Admin Section.
