Both look amazing, I personally preffer first one, the menu is better highlighted in a dark background.
Are the colors the only difference?
If so, I like the bottom one better. Not a fan of black/dark backgrounds myself.
Have to be honest though that the admin design really doesn't matter much to me - I've rearranged much of admin to suit the way I work so will probably do the same with 2.0 eventually.

Staring at 1 for a while is a bit harsh on the eyes, well, mine at least.

I vote for a combo of both. Blue/white top bar & grey left bar. I would also suggest making the background of the side nav a few shades darker so the contrast with the active page/icon (white bg) is a bit bigger.
Looks good btw. Much needed visual improvement for the admin.

Second one, have v2.0 on my local server and have trouble with the black.

I agree with Chris

I think, both designs are not good. It will be better to move left vertical menu bar to the header, because there is too much free space in the header, and with converting vertical menu to horizontal, we could win some space for the main block. Not everyone is using smartphones or another mobile devices, so it is not fair to make interfaces only for mobile users. Here is my vision of this idea:
Versu makes a really valid point about saving space and it looks just as good.versu wrote:I think, both designs are not good. I agree with versus, actually. I'd prefer an horizontal menu bar instead of vertical one. Horizontal space is more important imho.

also does no one like side bars>?
i don;t that much either but seems to be the way forward. you need to ask what your client thinks.
I know from a design point of view top menus look good because they are like menu bars on desktops.

I don't particularly like side bars - or side tabs for that matter. I've removed most of the horizontal tabs you had in admin and put all the info on 1 page as that works better for me.

I vote #2 as well
I like the fresh look and the sidebar isn't bad.
Both of whom have a logo that incorporates 2 very hard colors when mixed: "Blue and Red"
This is no fun to read
So maybe their eyes are shot from years of red on blue reading

Interestingly... the people who liked the first 1 were florinsith and XyPher...Daniel wrote:2nd one it is!
strange how everyone has different opinion. like peoples brains are wired different to like different colours.

The colors are side by side. Blue is not in background.
I've changed the device and looked again at the second screen...Now I can see the grey. (at first...I saw white because of a poorly configured monitor..and it was strange)
Both looks good..It really doesn't mather which one is picked...Personally I prefer dark colors
