Image copyresampled / destroy for image.php in error log

In the error log, I have a whole lot of these statements recently:
2013-03-24 13:58:53 - PHP Warning: imagecopyresampled() expects parameter 2 to be resource, null given in /home/server/public_html/store/system/library/image.php on line 109
2013-03-24 13:58:53 - PHP Warning: imagedestroy() expects parameter 1 to be resource, null given in /home/server/public_html/store/system/library/image.php on line 110
I don't know what is generating them or how to go about fixing the problem. Any help is appreciated!

EDIT: I am using 1.5.5.1, default theme.

Been a while without any response at all, but most suggestions have gone to permissions, corrupt files, missing files.
