Hello everyone, new to the forums and opencart.

I recently started modifying the default theme in an attempt to get familiar with the software. As I've been playing around with it I noticed that the minicart shoppingcart dropdown never shows the products or amounts when clicking on the link. It always says, "shopping cart empty" after adding items to the cart. The main shopping cart page works fine but the dropdown never updates.

I tried going directly to the url of, /index.php?route=module/cart (which is what shows inside the dropdown) and then refreshing the page and it shows the accurate amount of items added and price. Then when I go to the main website and click on the dropdown link, it shows what I just refreshed. Once again, it will not update until I manually refresh the dropdown info by going directly to the url.

This happens on IE9, Chrome and Firefox directly after a clean fresh install of opencart.

It's strange because the amounts will update correctly before clicking on the dropdown link, but then reverts back to zero or previously stored information after you click on the dropdown.

I've also noticed that I have to refresh pages in general almost every single time or the information never gets updated at both the client side and the admin side. It's quite tedious. I don't recall having to do so much refreshing on other ecommerce sites. Is it normal?

I'm starting to wonder if I have something set wrong within my VPS.
Running this on a VPS using CENTOS. Opencart version is 1.5.3.1

The test server is here. The modded theme is set, but like I said, it acts this way after a fresh clean install without touching anything.

Likely a javascript error linked to your custom theme

that's what I thought at first, but this is happening on a fresh install without any changes using the included sample data

delete everything and using the default theme is still happening? Mind showing a sample?

I will do a clean install when I get home later on today so you guys can see it first hand.

but for now let me ask you this. I'm not very familiar with ajax, in fact I have no idea how it functions. is it possible that I do not have this installed on my server and asynchronous communication is not functioning correctly?

nothing with asynchronous or synchronous wiring. it's more of software here and not the hardware and wiring stuffs.

Sorry for the extremely late reply as the Fourth of July week got the best of me.

Here is a fresh install with fresh database. The minicart updates one time, after that it keeps those same products listed regardless if you change the order or add/subtract items. It appears on Firefox, that nothing gets added to the minicart. The main cart appears to work as it should.

I've noticed something else that is interesting and most likely related to the same problem. When I load the main shopping cart, items don't refresh correctly there either. For example, if you click the red X as to delete an item, the div doesn't refresh the item list unless you manually refresh the browser. I just checked the opencart online demo and pressing the red delete X does in fact refresh the page immediately upon clicking.

EDIT:

I just tried a fresh install on a separate server.
Created a quick database, installed opencart. Everything works perfectly including the theme I was working on.

The most likely cause will be a file that's not been uploaded correctly via FTP (it happens more often than you'd think, and sometimes FTP clients don't report it correctly)

This is definitely a server setup issue. On the new test server, I don't have to manually refresh the admin pages every time either. The whole system works as it should, it's faster and a completely different experience.

I will post back just for documentation when I find the problem.

Anyone have idea's on this i get a "NetworkError: 404 Not Found - http://www.lifesizelegends.com/index.ph ... art/update" and must manually refresh for my mini cart to update. I tried reverting it back to the default theme thinking something i modified on the product page broke this functionality, but its broken in the default as well. ANY input would be very much appreciated.

I searched and compared through my httpd.conf, php.ini and several other config files to see if I could find an answer with no luck. I ended up purchasing a shared web hosting plan just so this didn't hold me up anymore.

This particular problem is present on my Godaddy VPS plan. ( I know, don't say it )I've noticed strange things such on this server since I set it up, such as domains/pages not resolving in a timely manner or not at all and overall sluggish performance. I thought it was an oversold hosting issue but I think the problem runs deeper. Rather than work with their customer service I decided to avoid it all together. I originally bought the VPS plan to circumvent a problem with another website but that will be resolved once this one is finished so I can go back to nice, cheap shared multi site hosting which will be more profitable. I don't need tons of bandwidth for any of my sites so the only thing I'm going to complain about is transferring everything and setup.

Sorry I don't have an answer.

I too checked all possibilities, Im with godaddy as well =*( dont get me started on them. Im on a dedicated server, whats really odd is that the minicart works on about 30% of my opencart sites I dont get what the variable is that is causing this to not work =/

is the only error or version of an error i get wish it could be more specific i know its looking for the update method .... but why cant it find it im 99.99% sure its there.

it should be checkout/cart/add

anyone know where to fix this

I have the same issue with my test site using the default template. When I add a product to the shopping cart, the minicart in the header shows first cart empty, then adds the item and price. When I move to another menu category, homepage or add another product the minicart displays an empty cart $0.00 value. The actual shopping cart displays the purchases correctly. I have installed several extensions and have no idea if an extension is messing up the minicart. I am very new to OpenCart and want to learn as much as I can before moving the site to my domain as a live commercial shop.
