Weight Based Shipping Changed?
Hi there!
I'm a complete noob to all of this, but I've done my research carefully when setting up my little shop - or so I thought.
Today, I got an e-mail from a confused customer, saying she couldn't order through the shop all of a sudden, there were apparently no shipping options available. I thought this was strange since everyone before her had been able to order just fine. I'm using weight based shipping and all the geo zones etc. are set up just fine and worked up until a few days ago.
I think I might have screwed things up when I went to change the default weight system of the entire shop from kg to grams.... I've put up all of my products in grams, but kept the shops system in kg and it worked fine, but for some really stupid reason, I felt like changing it to grams.
So, now the weight based shipping doesn't work as it should. I've changed the shops default system back to kgs again, but only two of four options for a swedish customer shows up and no options at all show up for international customers...
I don't understand how it could work just fine before I changed the weight system around and not work now, it doesn't make any sense?
I am so frustrated with myself over this! Could somebody please help a poor confused noob with this, please?
I will love you forever and ever and ever!
(PS: If you need more information out of me, let me know! I'm not sure what else you might need to know, so... I haven't fiddled any with the actual weight numbers in the shipping module, so they SHOULD work, but don't...)

Re: Weight Based Shipping Changed?
First, I'll start with what caused the problem.
When you switched your shop from kg to g, the weight based shipping will start using grams to calculate the shipping rates.
Since your rates are setup to work with kgs (Ex. 5:5.00 = up to 5kg = $5.00 in shipping), when you changed the shop to grams, it now should have looked like this (Ex. 5000:5.00 as everything is now multiplied by 1000 - 1000g = 1lg).
Since you changed your shop back to kg though, your shipping should start to work again, as everything is calculated in kgs.
One thing to double check would be your weight classes. Make sure that your g > kg conversion is correct.
The only other thing I can think of, is that you didn't adjust your weights in your products when changing them to grams.
A quick explanation as why the shipping methods don't display:
When the weight based shipping is calculating shipping costs, it breaks the shipping rates first by the comma ',', then by the semi colon ':' and does a comparison of the cart weight to each weight specified in your rates.
It checks to see if the weight of your cart is equal or less than the rate. If it is, it takes the cost associated with that rate, otherwise it moves onto the next rate and does the same check until it finds a rate that meets these parameters.
If the weight based shipping cannot find a rate to match these parameters, it returns false and no shipping cost is returned for that particular geo zone.
Therefore, if you have a cart weight of 3.5kg, but your rates only go to 3kg (Ex. 0.5:2.00, 1:5.00, 1.5:10.00, 2:15.00, 2.5:20.00, 3:25.00), then the shipping method is going to return false and no shipping cost will be assigned for that geo zone.

Cheers,
Joel.

Re: Weight Based Shipping Changed?
Hi Joel!
Thanks for your reply! However, I have checked everything you mentioned, and I can't find a solution for this.
However, when I changed everything from kgs to grams, I only edited the settings for the shop, I never edited any products, as I had already written their weights down in grams in the product information system. Logically, by changing the shop back to kgs, shouldn't everything just start working again?
Two of the shipping options are working, so why aren't the rest of them working? I checked the weight shipping rates and they're all correct - I never touched them to start with. Here's what one of the non-functioning shipping option's rates look like;
0.05:44, 0.25:44, 0.5:50, 1:59, 1.5:66, 2:74, 2.5:78, 3:83, 3.5:88, 4:92, 4.5:96, 5:101, 5.5:105, 6:110, 9999999:30.00
One of the products I've been trying to order through the shop weighs 1.5 kg, which means this option should show up, saying the item would cost 66 USD to ship off, so why isn't it working? There's nothing wrong with the product's weight either.
Argh, I'm at a complete loss of what to do here!
Unless you answer me on here, I'll send you an e-mail, in hopes of further assistance, as I quite obviously need it....

It might be easier to figure this out over email.

Try posting some screenshots of your shipping settings. There may be just a little something off.

Hi, and thanks for the reply Jonathan!
However, I somehow figured it out on my own; by changing the settings around, it somehow managed to reset the geo Zones! no idea how that could've happened, but... yeah. So I fixed the Geo Zones and now everything's back to normal!
