hosting: inmotion or arvixe?
(i accidentally posted this in general discussion, so i deleted it and put it here. sorry for any screw-ups.)
hey all...longtime lurker, first-time poster, blah blah blah.
anyway, after reading way more than i should have, i've come to the conclusion that we should be using either arvixe or inmotion for our hosting.
we've been with godaddy for 10 years, and while i did get opencart working there the first time i tried (very recently), it's time to move on. (all of our previous ventures have been custom-ecomm solutions created by us, in-house.) being that we're moving everything to opencart, i want to find a proper host with proper solutions - and support - for opencart-based sites. this is a major, major move for us, so i want to make the correct decision.
i ruled out places like bluehost, vidahost, and hostgator for a variety of reasons. honestly, i'm having a hard time choosing between inmotion and arvixe, and i was wondering what you all think.
arvixe: they're the sponsored host or whatever for opencart, so it seemed like a given. however, every time i have talked with sales/support on live chat this week, it's been a runaround and they never actually answered any of my questions. while arvixe obviously seems like a front-runner here, i became fairly annoyed after having several of my questions answered with answers only vaguely related to my question.
inmotion: everything i've read about these guys is good. that raises red flags for me haha. i talked to them on live chat and they were very informed, very nice, and have all kinds of support pages on their site for opencart, even if they don't "directly" support it.
pricing is good in both places, and both seem to work great for a lot of people. i'd like to hear any opinions you all have about these hosts and what an "ideal" solution would be.
i guess that's it. thanks!

Hi smashedtransit,
I am sorry you didn't get all your answers through our live chat. What questions did you have? I can answer them here if you like.

Re: hosting: inmotion or arvixe?
thanks for the reply, but it doesn't really matter a whole lot now. even if i get those answers now, if not getting answers is something i'll have to get used to, it somewhat leads me to believe that it will not be a very positive relationship if and when issues arise. and that doesn't make me very comfortable moving our entire business that way.
of course, i'm hoping those conversations were anomalies, which is why i posted on here: for real user feedback.
what i'd like here is to actually hear real thoughts from real customers - i know there are a lot of you here who use arvixe and inmotion. any insight or feedback about them would be greatly appreciated.
thanks!

Been with In Motion for bout 10 years where also I'm an affiliate so I have turned many others on to them. What you are reading about them shouldn't raise concern. They are as good as you read.

hey, thanks very much for the thoughts. i'm still debating it as we haven't yet made the switch, but it's nice to hear from at least one customer.

Arvixe is horrible. See my other posts about them. They are ignoring me totally now, blaming everything on opencart. NEVER USE THEM!!!

Everyone has a choice. If you have doubts about one, go with the other. I always push In Motion because I'm an affiliate but also because they have a great reputation, reasonable prices, and have everything installed on their servers you need to run Open Cart.

Re: hosting: inmotion or arvixe?
awesome, thanks for the feedback. after not getting many replies here before the weekend, i decided then to go with my gut: inmotion. looks like i may have chosen wisely.
so far, so good, and their customer service has been great. i have a small learning curve due to being with godaddy and their screwed up system for the last 10 years. even though cpanel is easy, i still had to learn how to use it after gd.
i did a test install yesterday and it went off without a hitch. looking good so far. thanks again, everyone!

Just don't use ARVIXE. Or, perhaps talk to the current customers filing law suits against them before you make your decision lol.

Hi, do you know if some of them support Verisign Certificatie installation? that would be great, thank you for your comments.

Re: hosting: inmotion or arvixe?
They will install it under 2 circumstances:
-The SSL you purchased is theirs and not a 3rd party.
-You need it installed on a SHARED HOSTING ACCOUNT.
For VPS and/or Dedicated:
If you use 3rd party like Verisign then no. Trust me, I've been through it many times. You need knowledge on how to generate a private key + CSR, then install the CRT they give you. I would be glad to help you if you have any questions.
