Two excellent free tools I wouldn't like to be without now, for possible inclusion on the Tools page, are:

RPL for Windows - Text Replace
(http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/rpl.htm)

CSDIFF - File(s) Differences
(http://www.componentsoftware.com/Produc ... /index.htm)

grepWin is based off of linux's grep (aka search) and I believe the replace function uses a Gnu tool.. perhaps even the rpl base
Winmerge is nice because it shows the diffs in color sidebyside and lets you copy the changes out to an external folder which makes things like the 1.4.9to1.4.9.1 patch very easy

I like using the Liberkey suite, it has most of the tools people have mentioned already included and can do most things you need, but you can add in others if required and also has regular updates of programs. I have mine running off an external hard drive so doesn't matter where I am, I can still have all my source code and usual development tools available including UniServer as my localhost test server including mail testing, just need any pc to plug into and all go!!! ;D

I searched this forum and couldn't find anything on this tool but..... for those who don't have the equivalent or the higher end coder tools the following is a tool "must have" and really great for noobies.

DiffMerge from Sourcegear The right price too $0.00

A stupid question is the one you -don't- ask.........(Anon)

yes it does, but meld just looks better and makes the whole thing much more readable. It displays similar to what beyond compare does which is a nice program for windows, but it's paid.

Yes well for some reason WinMerge didn't update too well when I upgraded, so rather than do a lot of seeking and fixing I went looking for something that I could use on widows and came up with that DIFFMerge.

KDIFF (windows), for me, doesn't seem to work the way that I think it should (and that has nothing to do with KDIFF), though I am sure once I figure it out I should be on a winner.

I'm a web/graphic designer and front-end developer not a hardcore programmer (not by a long shot) so my life pretty much revolves around Adobe's Creative Suite, Dreamweaver, and Flash. I've worked within several different platforms over the years (Coldfusion, ASP.NET/SQLServer, and now PHP/MySQL) and Dreamweaver has been fine for pretty much everything, with the exception of ASP.NET, where, I could use it, but it just couldn't compete with Visual Studio for building that type of site. I'm sure if I got seriously into the programming side of PHP, I might look into something more specific like the NuSphere products for all the debugging features adn whatnot. In any case, here's my list:

Coding
Adobe Dreamweaver 99.9% of the time; Microsoft Visual Studio on the rare occasion I have to code an ASP.NET site; during the dotcom boom around 1999–2000, it was BBEdit.

Dev Server
WAMP (php development)
IIS (asp.net development)*
Coldfusion (Coldfusion development)*

*These last two are rarely used anymore as pretty much most of my current work is php/MySQL-based.

Graphics
Illustrator and Photoshop are the mainstays. On Occasion, Flash and Autodesk Maya/3ds Max.

Video/Audio editing
Adobe Premiere and After Effects for video work and Steinberg Nuendo for Audio.
Camtasia for instructional screencasts.

FTP
Dreamweaver, as local/testing/remote servers are all tied in when you create a site; If I need a stand-alone FTP for huge batch uploading, I use FlashFXP at home and WinSCP at work.

Firefox add-ons
Web Developer
Firebug
Drupal For Firebug
Fire Font Family
Measure It
Wappalyzer
ColorZilla

Other
PHPMySql
BigDump
WinMerge

I use Edit Plus 3, Notepad ++ and Adobe Dreamweaver as my editors. MS Visual Studio is somehow complicated I guess. If the sql server has problems, you need to reformat and not just reinstall.
