Hey everyone,
After setting up the USPS shipping module, I get the following error (under my shipping options) when I try to test it out...
"Authorization failure. Perhaps username and/or password is incorrect"
All of my info is correct, so I am not sure what the problem is. Do any of you experts know?
Thanks!

Trust me. It isn't. USPS has had a bug in their activation system for almost a decade now. I had this problem 7 years ago when I first signed up with them
What they think happens:
1. You create a USPS WebTools account
2. The account gets activated on the "Test Server"
3. You run a few test and call them to move to their "Prod Server"
4. They see you ran some tests and Say "Ok" and move you to the Prod server.
5. All rates should work for your account from both prod and test servers
What actually happens:
1. You create a USPS WebTools account
2. The account doesn't work with any of their servers
3. You call them and have them activate your account
4. They either say:
- We don't see any test data for your account, please query our test server first. At that point, your account might magically start working with the test server. Or not and you have to call again later.
or
- Ok we will activate your account which could mean test, prod, or both (or neither)
5. Rates should hopefully work at least on the Test server by this point.
6. Call them again to go to the prod server. Results vary from here.
The simple fact is "Authorization failure. Perhaps username and/or password is incorrect" means your account is not activated. Even if they think it is. This is a message coming back directly from their server. You will have to call them to have them check it.
Also be sure you are using a USPS Webtools account and not your Click-n-ship account. They are completely separate.

Hey Qphoria,
Thanks for the help! I wasn't using a webtools account, so now I feel silly.
But now I am getting the error... Authorization failure. You are not authorized to connect to this server. After doing some google work, other people had to request that they activate their accounts, like you said. So I have emailed USPS and will hopefully hear back soon with good news.
So thanks for all the help Qphoria, you're a lifesaver!

I'm having the same issue with v1.4.... I signed up at https://secure.shippingapis.com/registration/ and got the email with my user and pass. After I entered all that in the usps module and switched to the test server the only result I get is 'Authorization failure. You are not authorized to connect to this server'. I've sent emails but no reply and I'm gonna call tomorrow because there was a long hold time. I hope one of us figures this out soon.

I am using Opencart 1.34 and the Qforia USPS shipping module patch.
After calling USPS and manually activating the production server I got a
'Content Encoding Error' on the checkout page. Fixed that by changing Settings Output Compression level to 0
Now on the checkout page I get the following error and no USPS rates:
Notice: Undefined index: value in /home/jtpercussion.com/www/store/catalog/model/shipping/usps.php(386) : eval()'d code on line 1
The store is located at:

Thanks for any help!

I called and got through today. They activated my account and BINGO! It worked right away. Thanks for the info. I might even go buy something off your site.

Set your compression to 0 in the Settings->Server tabanthill wrote:I am using Opencart 1.34 and the Qforia USPS shipping module patch.

I did that. Anyhow, I 've since decided to go straight to version 1.4.4 - no problems with the USPS shipping module there. But how do i get my catalog (images and categories) into the newly installed 1.4.4 store?
I have back ups of everything. All 1.3.4 files and the DB
Thanks!

It sure would be nice if the USPS module had a note next to "User ID:" that said "USPS Webtools account not Click-n-ship"Qphoria wrote:Also be sure you are using a USPS Webtools account and not your Click-n-ship account. They are completely separate.

This post does the trick otherwise. Thanks Qphoria!
Using Opencart 1.5.5.1
NO NEED FOR TEST MODE: I called USPS 800 number and waited 30 minutes but here is the update. The Test Mode is for those doing their own code to use USPS Web Tools. For those using 3rd party software...that's us...using OpenCart...no testing is required, so instead, all you have to do is SIGN UP, get your user name and password, configure Open Cart USPS shipping module and then call back immediately and ask USPS to make you LIVE. There is no need to test because Open Cart code has already been tested.
Question.
Went through the process to set up the USPS, got the typical username/password error, got that fixed and then it went to the not authorized to this server warning.
From there, I called up USPS to get them to move the account from the test server and make it live. They did.
Now, I goto the cart and do a test with checking out, and I dont even have the option of USPS shipping anymore. It just disappeared!
What gives?
