I need to have "Add to Cart" buttons replaced with download links for zero price products...

Unfortunately I couldn't find any extension regarding this. all I could find was the same request for drupal. https://www.drupal.org/node/1417766

... It would take forever for my customers to download my free digital products.... Any idea ? I really need this

It's not so easy, ZERO is not ZERO, there are MINUS Numbers too, to be aware of, I've spent a whole night, trying,
to finally make it work, at least, by Use of one hard-coded URL, to be called. But since you'll probably have more
than one Product, to link, you would require some kind of a list, connected to the Link-Downloads, and this makes
it rather complicated, because the Link-Routine, it's definition, and Declaration, and proper translation, would
have to be part of the whole OC MVC-Archidecture.

Get a decent Server, 2 Years of Server Rent is cheaper than a working Mod, to serve your Purpose.
or then, use the Product Download Option, or something like this here:
http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route ... n_id=16889
with this Mod, you could send the Download to the Customer, of it's not a HUGE File. Otherway's, it could be
NOT accepted by some Hosters. Just to mention this.

Good Luck

Seems to be a good extension but I still don't understand how the download link is send to the customer ? you mean when a customer buys a product they can receive an email of that download link in question (without having to register) or the link is send to their user account ?

I had to try again, to find out, it's long, since I worked on this... :D

IN CONTRARY to Files, or whatever, beeing downloadable from your Site, after, i.E. PayPal Payment has been made, THIS MOD allows you, to ADD a File, or whatever, AFTER a Customer has paid for whatever you offer, and you NOW CHANGE the SALES Document to ANOTHER STATUS, i.E. COMPLETED.

Doing this, you have the Option, to send a RECEIPT of payment-type INFO to your Customer, INCLUDING the FILE, the Customer paid for, once, in the Mail. But the Customer will have NO further access to the File in the Download Section, to download the file, or anything, anymore. And in the Sales-Document, remaining on the Server, accessible by the Customer. it will be visbily noted, that the File was sent.

Depending on, what it is, this could be an option, at least.
Good Luck

I would imagine you would still want to keep some kind of record of "purchases" of the free product.

For my own site, I wrote a modification for a guest checkout for free downloads. It still collects some information (country and zone) and creates an order for the "purchase" so that I still have a record of how many times the product has been "purchased".

"Products" are still added to the shopping cart, but upon checkout, the customer enters their country and zone and then is directed to a page where they can download the products. They can't add anything else to their shopping cart until they have completed their downloads. If they have an account (or create an account) and are logged in, the downloads will be linked to their account and be available from the downloads page in their account.
