Hi there!
I'm new in openCart and trying to restyle the default template/theme by creating a duplicate.
What I did is duplicating the "default" folder under "themes" and rename it. In the administration panel I did select my new theme under "configurations > settings > shop" but it doesn't work.

The theme screenshot/thumbnail doesn't come up and the links in the source still go to the default theme.

The folders file permissions are all set to 777 so thats no issue.

Is there an other way to do this? Or what do I wrong?

Thx for help!

Thats normal, as I assume you've not created a thumbnail for it :D

Thats not really advised.

If you have done what you've said that should be working, ignore the thumbnail image, alter the file below (putting <h1>HELLO ME!!!</h1> is my favourite), set it to this them in the admin and then go to the site and check the site:

/catalog/view/theme/<new theme name>/template/common/header.tpl

Matt

Code: Select all

It was like that when I found it, honest!

Hey Matt,

thanks dude. Gotcha - all right so to approach this in the right way what you have to do is to update the header.tpl file under themes > your theme > template > common.
All the links are hard coded in the file so different to systems like wordpress.

Thanks for the hint!

cheers

Hey Matt,

all is working just that image/thumbnail is not coming up under template in the administration. Not a big issue anyway but don't get it. Just wondering why it's not coming up if I duplicated the default theme folder it must be there - so basically the same one should come up as per the default folder. (????)

Ok solved,

you need to go under root directory > image > templates and create a thumbnail with the same name as your theme name.
