I would like to use the latest products module on the home page of a site. I would like to change the products it chooses to exclude a category that has a sort order of -1.
Any ideas?

Your plug-in looks nice but is way more than what is needed. In addition, there is a LOT of custom coding on this site and I don't want to lose any of that or corrupt it. What I want to do is simply to modify the code to make it look at a particular category only....If anyone can help, it is greatly appreciated.

Not an easy thing to do because it fetches all products using the default catalog/model/catalog/products class
Changing the class will affect other areas of the site (i.e. no products who's category has a sort order of -1 would be visible anywhere in the site)

Well, that is definitely not what I want to do.....I could use featured products, but it has quit working....
I can activate featured products, but when I choose some to appear, they don't...no error messages, just no products either.
