problem installing new theme

hi, i am new to opencart.
I want to add a new theme to my shop, added the theme files via FTP but when i apply the theme i get loads of errors and warning usually from the header.tpl
the warnings usually say undefined variable or such.

Ask the developer to help you, or check the documentation again incase you not follow all the step yet

its a free theme, i don't think they offer assistance with that and there was no documentation either

Are you sure the theme is compatible with your version of opencart???

I also have this problem, but I'm sure the theme is compatible with my version of opencart.
"Undefined variable: text_items in /var/www/html/catalog/view/theme/theme_name/template/common/header.tpl"
