Changing "Cheque" to "Check"

I need to change the British English "Cheque" to the US English "Check". I've looked for the solution and tried to change the code myself (I'm not a coder) - no success. I'm in version 3.0.2.0. I'm sure it's a simple solution, just above my understanding . Can someone point me in the right direction?
