Disable compulsory meta tag

is there a way to disable the compulsory use of a meta tag on the product page.
I can't make any changes to an existing product after an upgrade from 1.5.6 to 3.0.2 unless I add a meta tag to the product.
If there is a way to disable the red asterix so it isn't compulsory.

If you have vqmod installed then you can use this little vqmod i made.
If not then you can look at the vqmod file and edit your files accordingly, but the changes will be lost if/when you upgrade.
