Shop by manufacturer?

How can I get my store to show the manufacturers on the main page, and when you click on one, it shows all the products by that manufacturer?

It's called brands and it's there with a default install. It's a dropdown list by default, but you could modify the tpl to create a list instead.

It would be a change to the common.php file. It currently calls getLatestProducts and then passes the data to the common.tpl
You'd need to change the call to use manufacturers and change the common.tpl to show the correct values.

Really, the best thing would be to make the home page modular so things like this could be created like center modules

doh! I thought he was talking about a sidebox. Yeah I would love to see something like the homepage mod added to the core. We get sooo many of these types of requests.

Fido-x has a Homepage module floating around here somewhere. That lets you have a more modular homepage, Thats just the start to getting this to work.

I don't think it has a manufacturer module, but it makes it pretty easy to mod any module to show on the homepage.

Cool mod! How would I go about modding a module to make a 'Brands' section on the front page, which would show all the manufacturers? I'm kinda new at this

look at the tpl for one of his boxes that works on the homepage, say featured. you'll see an if homepage at the top then else regular. mod the manufacture.tpl add the if homepage with the layout you want then goto the admin side and edit the tpl and compare it to one of his that suppports the homepage. what you are looking for is the select code to change it to have the homepage option.

Hey guys, OP here. I cant quite get this to work. Is there any other ways to do it?

And about restrict the shopping by manufacturer? So the shop shows all the products, as per default, but the customer can just shop by manufacturer/s when selected. Once the customer add one product from a manufacturer, the shop doesn't allow to add other manufacturer products...
