Yeah. Last year EIG started migrating Hostgator customers to their Provo, Utah data center with predictably bad results. One client went from less than an hour of downtime the previous year to 30+ hours downtime/degraded service in the past 6 months. And that was on one of the higher end VPS packages.
I'm looking at migrating over to KnownHost. If anyone has any experience with them I'd be interested to hear it.

Avoid JUSTHOST like the plague, never thought I'd say this been with them for years but the service has got terrible I had a problem with trying to to use mod_deflate and all they said was it was the server decides if you need compression end of, plus the support staff they have are totally useless and ill trained if they've had any training at all. I'm trying to move my domain and hosting and they are dragging there feet. >:(
I think any economic shared hosting is OK. OC is a lightweight script.

That explains it then as the used to be really good, still having a fight with them to get my site moved wan*ers.rph wrote:No surprise there. JustHost is another one of the webhosts purchased by EIG in the last couple years.
A couple years ago I left In Motion Hosting because they were still in the growing pains phase of offering a secure environment for their users. It seems they've really picked their game up in many areas including customer support. We're going to using a dedicated rack from In Motion starting next week. They seem to have the best reviews at least for dedicated services. Just letting you know what I found.rph wrote:No surprise there. JustHost is another one of the webhosts purchased by EIG in the last couple years.
I'm going with arvixe when justhost get there finger out I only have a small site as the products I sell are niche and high value, got a bit confused on seeing your avatar thought you had some connection.
I do work for Arvixe indeed. That doesn't mean that Arvixe is the best solution for everyone. It really depends on your preference.discoverytdi wrote:I'm going with arvixe when justhost get there finger out I only have a small site as the products I sell are niche and high value, got a bit confused on seeing your avatar thought you had some connection.
I think a VPS is the best option for opencart if you want a successful shop. If too expensive then go for shared hosting on linux. Try and stay away from windows hosting for opencart as it's more for ASP.NET.
This is my recommendation

I used to recommend HostGator, but during the past few months they have really gone downhill. Their customer service is very slow, response times to tickets are often more than 24 hours. Their SpamAssasin filters don't work as expected. Ping times have become very slow as a result of physically relocating their servers.edcredible wrote:+ 1 hostgator. I am open to any recommendations. Maybe Arvixe?

Yes, HostGator has gone downhill a few months ago, after their takeover by another company.avvici -arvixe- wrote: I just saw this. Oh and, hello there. I was considering signing some folks up with Host Gator but it is ironic that it's been a year since everyone was praising them so highly! So, they are crapping out now?

I like having managed servers myself. Server admining is complicated enough that it's nice to have a person you can kick off the tougher issues to. Plus I can barely keep pace with the rapid changes in web development. No way I could keep up with *nix/Apache/lighttpd/nginx/MySQL/et al., too.

One of my clients uses opencart. Outside of bandwidth resources don't seem to be too intensive until you do large import/exports of products. I wouldn't suggest hosting a large site on shared hosting. VPS or dedicated server is more ideal (and secure in my opinion).
The server that was quoted for $300 per month is quite a bit high, there are plenty of people offering better deals, including me

Hello Friends
I would like to share my experience ... and I know it may hurt someone and may make others glad
But I think I should for the sake of OPENCART (the best open source ecommerce platform right now)
We are in Furniture industry from last 12 years as a B2B + B2C and from last 3 years we are doing quite well in B2C with our online stores, Our store http://www.boneinlayinteriorfurniture.com is running on 3dcart SAAS model which is doing good business in US area,
Now we planned to move forward and launched our new store http://www.boneinlayinteriorfurniture.co.uk with same product range similar to US store (a true copy) but with different platform, design and content,
further we decided to go with Opencart (the best open source ecommerce platform & many more reasons) and for hosting we thought if opencart is recommending Arvixe Hosting then it will be the best for us and we hosted our websites on it but it was like a nightmare for us, the page load speed was taking more then 30 seconds and after doing all optimization (cache, compression, minify, progressive jpg’s & cdn) the pageload was still 20-25 seconds and we were having just 300 products in our database
We contacted the support team of Arvixe Hosting and after some days they replied (thank god they replied after so many tickets & mails) and tried to justify that everything is going alright and gave a link of pingdom tools (where every website shows good performance figures) and tried to confuse us with FBT/ TTFB (First bite time) response from server sort of things.. etc ..etc..
So we made the conclusion that it’s the OPENCART which is having issues and decided to go for Magento or any other solution, but after investing on themes & SEO modules and most important our time I was feeling bad to switch to another platform and start from scratch again.
So one day I thought why don’t we go with any other hosting provider and I Google “opencart hosting” and found http://www.wxhosting.com/opencart_hosting (The best hosting provider I have ever seen in my life) and now every thing changed and I recommend those who were like me and thinking to switch platform and start from scratch again
Just give them a try and it may work for you too, below are the links which need no words, Everything is same just hosting is changed
