How to show category list on left in homepage?

Hi all i am new, i would like to have the category box shown on left on the home page like they have done here.

How do i do this?

In modules, install the category one and set it to appear on the left on the home page layout.

I am having the same issue, under EXTENSIONS>MODULES> CATEGORY i have set Layout as catergory, postion as column left, status as enabled and sort order as 1.
Now if I add a new catergory add catergory name under GENERAL. under the DATA tab i change nothing other than tick the TOP box. On DESIGN i choose the catergory setting. I still can't get the catergories box to appear on the left when on the homepage??

http://www.devonsigncompany.co.uk so you can see what I mean. It appears fine when you go to a catergory page but ideally I want to appear on the homepage too??

Any ideas?

To get a further idea i'm trying to achieve something similar to this, http://www.feked.com/ where all the catergories/products are listed on the left with the top bar free?
