[1.5.0] - Layout completely changed

Hi,

I'm wondering why the developer completely changed the looks and layout of OpenCart.
What is going to happen now to all active store who's utilizing Version 1.4.9.5?
Do version 1.5.0 offers the template / theme of 1.4.9.5?
Do we really need to upgrade to 1.5.0? If not, will the 1.4.9.5 soon become vulnerable?
The parent product category is on the horizontal menu layout, what if I have 20 parent product category?

Bottomline, why there's a drastic change of layout and I don't see the option of retaining the old layout. (I hope I'm just not seeing this).

Why do you need to upgrade... if you are so happy with 1.4.9.5 stay with it!

I love the new layout! Excellent changes.

If you don't need any features from 1.5.x then you don't need to upgrade. 1.4.x will continue to work just the same as it always has for a long time to come. There have not even been any hints at any possible vulnerabilities in it, so I don't see any problem staying with it. At this point I wouldn't even seriously consider 1.5.x yet there are still many bugs being found. For a production environment I would wait for 1.5.1, but I've always been cautious that way.

"Xsecrets" has set it out well... daneil himself has said that if you don't need to upgrade to 1.5 don't bother...

I want to upgrade to the latest version because of new features, mainly customer reward point system. But still would love to have old layout. Is there an option for that?

Why do you keep adding if 1.4.9.5 will become "vulnerable"? Seems that isn't the word you want to use. Perhaps you mean defunct or support dropped. Some people are still using 13x because they made a lot of changes and are to busy making money.

As i've said before to other people like you, you are running your own store to be entrepreneurs and to make money. You are not a professional cart upgrader. You don't need to have the latest bleeding edge version unless you are a developer. But four most users, you should focus on a stable live shop.

At the very least you should wait for mod developers to port their mods. The changes 150 take about 25 steps and most of them are manual and can't be globally replaced easily. Stop rushing to the latest version with no mods available just leaves you waiting.

I've been lurking on this thread and finally found my empathy with Jin. Jin is apparently upset that a tool he has become familiar with over the years (or, at least since February of this year) has changed its look and feel without considering the embedded base of users who have invested heavily in becoming comfortable with the old look and feel.

Gee - this is exactly how I, and millions of my friends and colleagues, felt when Microsoft released Office 2007. Millions upon millions of people had become intimately familiar with Office since its introduction in 1989. Yet, Microsoft, in their infinite wisdumb, decided that it was acceptable to trash that comfort and loyalty base by completely changing the product five years ago. Guess what? Millions upon millions of us around the world continue to use Office 2003 because we do not believe that it is worthwhile to completely relearn our trusted friend in order to have new features we don't need (or to pay for that privilege).

What will happen in two more years when Office 2003 reaches end-of-life? Thousands of private consultants will take up Microsoft's slack and provide whatever support is necessary to the millions of legacy users.

What will happen in xxx months or years when OpenCart 1.4 reaches end-of-life? OpenCart, unlike any MS product, is open source, and we have thousands of members right here who will decide as a community if or when that declaration should be made.

Everyone from Daniel on down has said the same thing: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." If OC 1.3 or 1.4 are humming along and making money for you and/or your clients, there is no earthly reason to move to a newer version. After all, if there is no benefit in moving to a newer version you cannot call such a move "an upgrade".

Opencart has always undergone these changes though. This is nothing new. I imagine the people riled up by this are those who started using Opencart fairly recently (probably after multistore was introduced).
