On my 1.5.6.4 Opencart website checkout works fine, but the actual cart page isn't working properly.

Trying to update the number of items ordered (clicking the blue refresh symbol) at index.php?route=checkout/cart doesn't work - the page refreshes but the number of items remains the same. Also, you can click to apply a coupon or a get a shipping quote (the shipping quote box will pop up) but nothing happens when you click "Apply Shipping" or "Apply Coupon".

Instead, when the user clicks, the page acts like something is happening (the shipping quote box will disappear for example) but doesn't perform the desired function.

The only thing I can think of that may have caused this was I tried to apply this patch: http://git.io/F3dGoA to my cart.php file. However, it didn't work and so i reverted back to the previous version of the file. The cart had been working fine for over a year now and I haven't updated or changed anything else.

How can I fix this issue?

EDIT: I narrowed the issue down to SSL. When it's enabled (I have my htaccess set to force https on all pages) the cart page doesn't work properly as outined above. When using http the page works fine. I've tried to exclude the cart page from being forced to transmit using https with solutions like this: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/176 ... -directory but I can't get it to work - the page still loads with SSL.
