It is quite bizarre, especially as IE6 is so unsafe.

But I can relate a personal story...I worked for a huge German company (this is 2009), and we were given laptops with IE6. About the first thing I did on the laptop was upgrade to IE8...about a week later, I had to enter some HR kind of stuff on the Intranet...just wasn't able to...called tech support....about 2 weeks after frentic calls and emails with tech support, it was finally gathered that the software wasn't working as I had IE8...now obviously I couldn't have both IE6 and IE8, so my IE8 was uninstalled and IE6 installed to get the intranet software to work....by the way, the software was also from a German company...the largest ERP company in the world in fact....

And here I always thought zee Zermans were always at the cutting edge of everything...well, to be fair, the German customers of our company were far more sophisticated than those in other countries....but the company IT was ... :o

Yea most companies dont want to spend money on updating their intranets or whatever software they use so they force people to use IE6. What a shame.

Whew, that was tricky, fast forward in slowmo, to 2013 August, while the flattened oozing fly that will not die still wiggles and flits, albeit only about as well as a cracked snail slides or a tattered old butterfly spurts a yard at a time,

banned, http://www.ie6countdown.com/
epitaphed, http://www.ie6countdown.com/
life-supported http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... .aspx?id=1 (xp sp 1)
detested http://forum.opencart.com/viewtopic.php ... 50#p195498
sustained by hammerheads "of exactly 101,326 users" http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/07/29 ... iq_survey/

and still not dead.

Nero fiddled while Rome burned, because he and everyone else celebrated but overdid it after somebody finally killed that one damned fly, which when repeatedly killed dead fair and square repeatedly righted to annoy.

We must be careful during the eventual IE6 expungement celebration riots not to overdo it, and be full enough of beer to douse fires.

However, enough people chipping in modestly in order en masse to buy the cause of the problem could then immediately put the both cause and the despised effect out of our misery.
