So I need to install two OC code base? Two folders one for each shop? I thought this all this is abt using one codebase, and only one copy of it. My shopfront will work only when these folders exists. each folders for each shop. Anyway I have resigned to the fact that I am dumb. Maybe I am expecting it to behave differently. OK can someone confirm this..

1) Do visitors enter different url each for these shops?
2) Or Do visitors enter one common url to visit the site and from withing the site they select the shop
3) other variation than the above

most important is pls tell me if I need to copy the same set of codes into another folder for each additional shop.
And what is it 1) 2) or 3)

Thank you so very much.

Assuming you're on windows, open

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

with a text editor change

Code: Select all

127.0.0.1 localhost
to

Code: Select all

127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 mystore
127.0.0.1 myshop
You can make it mystore.com if you'd like but this way you won't have to worry about accidentally redirecting from a real website. In Admin set up the store URLs as

http://mystore/opencart_v1.4.3/upload/
http://myshop/opencart_v1.4.3/upload/

(though you should have really installed OpenCart to a shorter path like /store/)

finally got it!!. tq! tq! tq!

One last favour. Now I could see that oc is multishop and close to being the mall I like. Only if it can have own administrator for each shop then I have my mall. I dont need the other advance feature yet. features like stock, manufacturers, delivery etc is not necessary at the moment. OC has the design base for it. Anyone is able to customize this for me? Or anyone who knows someone who would customize for me please let me know.

Thank you and good day to all

The method above simulates having a second domain name. For two shops on one domain you'd probably want to use .htaccess.

Multi shop in a live environment would be the equivalent of having parked domains on the same hosting space.

So in cpanel or equivalent, you would park domain1, domain2, domain3 etc... then when people access that domain it is using the same codebase, the same database, but they are presented with a different store each time, because you can setup different products and a template for each store for each domain.

Though my knowledge is not all encompassing regarding OC I have been a tech-writer in the past and am willing to help with user-side documentation wherever needed.

Cheers

Yes. There's another thread here. But it's in danger of getting lost (maybe make it a sticky?).
